Villa Dora, mediterranean hideaway anchored to Tamariu’s rockside (Costa Brava)
In a plot with an irregular perimeter and strong incline, Villa Dora transforms the most severe determinants – hard access, strict regulations and a preexisting concrete structure – into an opportunity to melt into the Costa Brava landscape. The house is stepped on the slope where viewed from the street only two floors can be discerned, however upon descent a semisubterranean floor emerges where four suites experience uninterrupted views of the Mediterranean sea.
The heart of the house is a sliding macro window measuring 12m per 2,6m, which upon sliding on floor-leveled rails removes the limit between the grand living-dining room and terrace-lookout. A centered natural stone wall – with a grounded hearth – backbones the space, stretching out to the roof and reinforcing the verticality of the composition. The iron and wood staircase hovers in between floors; its minimalistic outline and shadow play emphasizes the attention to detail and allows leeway for a swift motion across social and private areas.
At dusk, the indirect lighting hidden inside the iron and wood pergolas casts glazes onto the stone walls, underlining the textures and extending the living experience beyond the interior. Natural stone, large glass surfaces, and a light hued façade balance both robustness and lightness; while wide terraces, shaded spots and an infinite pool draw you to live out the exterior in equal excitement to the interior.
