Villa Balear, the rebirth of a structure on the Costa Brava

In Calonge, in the heart of the Costa Brava, Villa Balear stands as a clear example of how contemporary architecture can transform an unfinished structure into a vibrant, inhabitable work of art. The project begins with a concrete frame abandoned for more than fifteen years, which the team chose to reclaim by reinterpreting it under current regulations and adapting it to an ambitious brief focused on comfort and leisure. The house is arranged across three levels that interact with both the terrain and the sea.

The lower level includes a garage, bedroom, multipurpose room, technical room, and a spa area with sauna and hydromassage tub, all opening toward the pool—conceived as the main hub for leisure and celebration.

The pool is the visual centerpiece of the project, featuring an integrated spa tub, a central fire feature, and a barbecue area designed for social gatherings. A unique architectural gesture elevates the presence of water: a second pool on the upper floor cascades over a pedestrian walkway, creating a striking visual and acoustic experience.

On the main floor, the Italian-designed kitchen and the living–dining area extend onto a terrace facing the pool, while two en-suite bedrooms provide privacy and comfort. The upper floor hosts the most exclusive spaces, with an additional bedroom and the master suite featuring a walk-in closet, a semi-open bathroom, and access to a private terrace with spa tub and barbecue area—an exceptional vantage point over the Costa Brava.

Villa Balear embraces pure volumes, generous glazing, and the richness of materials such as exposed concrete, natural stone cladding, metal detailing, and wood. The interiors reinforce this atmosphere through continuous flooring, designer furniture, and a balanced palette of neutral and mineral tones. The result is a home that transcends domesticity: a stage for contemporary living where water, light, and landscape take on a leading role, transforming an abandoned structure into a place that celebrates togetherness, relaxation, and the beauty of everyday life.
