Bellsolà, reinterpreting tradition

In the heart of the Catalan countryside, Can Bellsolà represents an opportunity to rediscover the essence of traditional architecture through a respectful and contemporary intervention. The challenge was to restore part of the farmhouse, previously renovated more than a century ago, and transform it into a 100 m² master suite that would include a bedroom, bathroom, dressing room, and living area. The original state, deeply outdated and fragmented into multiple rooms, led to the unification of five spaces, giving them continuity through the use of natural and reclaimed materials.

The result is a suite that preserves exposed stone walls and whitewashed wooden beams, coexisting with microcement floors, small-format ceramic tiles in the bathroom, and corten steel details. The main bedroom opens as a warm and serene space, defined by an integrated headboard and a light staircase leading to a mezzanine relaxation area. The double height and natural light from a skylight enhance the spaciousness and visual connection between the two levels.

The bathroom is organized around a gradation from public to intimate: new stone sinks open toward the bedroom, while the shower and toilet are concealed behind a stone wall that ensures privacy. The hydraulic ceramic floor brings texture and Mediterranean warmth. The dressing room, featuring open wooden and metal furniture, combines functionality and aesthetics, connected to the suite through a corten steel-framed access that contrasts with the stone walls.

The intervention does not compete with the farmhouse but rather engages in dialogue with its history. Every material aims to highlight what already exists while complementing it with contemporary solutions. Thus, where there were once five small, dark rooms, there is now an open, light-filled master suite that preserves the rural character while providing modern comfort. A retreat that reflects the essence of Mediterranean architecture: rootedness, simplicity, and timeless beauty.
