Villa Barrufa, nestled at Montilivi’s hillside (Girona), was thought up as large window facing the landscape

The house is settled on a plot of land at the highest altitude, at an incline of seven meters, transforming the slope into an ally in conquering scenic views and privacy. The project is hinged upon two distinct bodies: a ground floor pouring out entirely to the garden, terrace and swimming pool – all on the same tier – along with a compact first floor elevated to act as a lookout over the city. The result is a play of horizontal clean lines hovering over a rockbound plinth, thus balancing contemporaneity against land taken roots.

In the interior, the ground floor harbours an open space where the kitchen, dining room and living room stream in seamless continuity; a great sliding wood door allows for sectioning off the area and gives way to a second room with a butler’s kitchen and a dining hall for hosting private gatherings. At the opposite end, almost hidden, emerges a suite which maintains privacy without breaking the continuity of the space. The relationship with the exterior is constant as sliding picture windows connect to a terrace, and a trellis towards the garden yields to a shaded chill-out kept away from prying eyes.

The top floor gathers two bedrooms joined by a shared living room which can be compartmentalized with new sliding doors, along with a run terrace magnifying the views over Girona. There is even left a well-prepared passage to the roof to set up an additional solarium. As a whole, every decision seeks out an equilibrium between form and function – opening and shelter – offering an architecture thought out to be lived in at ease and without shrillness.
