Villa Lucy, to dwell in the light of Tamariu’s mediterranean hillside (Costa Brava)

Built on a narrow lengthened plot, the house stretches out its foundation along the slope and moulds its limitation into an advantage: each one of the rooms leans towards the sea to capture its breeze. Three staggered platforms organize the design and landscape: at the top, a single spaced living room-dining room-kitchen pours out to the swimming pool and garden; in the middle, the bedrooms lay with views filtered by the horizon; at the bottom, the garage and added facilities disappear into the scenery. Visually, a double-height picture window connects the three tiers, carrying light to the heart of the house and bathing the Begur’s stones, lime and wood in it – materials in dialogue with their surroundings without pretensions. Further, the street facing façade is protected by an opacity and a vertical finger-joint wood casting shifting shadows, while the opposite side of the façade opens up in grand glazed panels melding into the garden. Thus, Villa Lucy secures itself with preciseness, giving back a light, efficient and fully mediterranean architecture.
